What's New for 2025?

This year, the Subaru Forester will receive updates to its exterior and chassis. As such, drivers can expect to find:

  • Updated grille
  • New headlights
  • New electric power steering rack
  • A foot-activated hands-free power tailgate

Even with these changes, the Forester will still feature the same powertrain and its standard all-wheel drive.

Performance

The powertrain for the new Forester remains the same - a 2.5-liter flat-four cylinder with a continuously variable transmission and all-wheel drive. However, the engine's output has been slightly altered, and now it outputs 180 horsepower and 178 lbs. of torque. By comparison, last year, the Forester's output was 182 horsepower and 176 lbs.-torque.

Fuel Economy

Though the Forester's engine is slightly tweaked, its fuel economy remains unchanged. Drivers will still find the Forester to offer around 26 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. However, in the Sport and Touring trims, these numbers will dip by one mpg in each category.

Technology

With an updated cabin, Subaru has also opted to add new technologies as well. One of which is an upgraded STARLINK Multimedia system. This new system will run on a dual seven-inch display in the base trim and a new 11.6-inch touchscreen in higher trims. Both systems will offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but only the 11.6-inch screen has wireless functionality. Additionally, there's also features like an integrated navigation system and a wireless charging pad.

Safety

Safety is a top priority for Subaru. That's why, whether you're out on the trail or cruising down the highway, the model's EyeSight suite of camera-based features will keep you safe. Safety features like adaptive cruise control, forward collision mitigation, lane departure warning, and lane-keeping assist are found in this bundle. The Sport or Touring trims will offer more advanced features like blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, evasive steering assistance, and a driver monitoring system.

Trims

Subaru has not announced if trims will be added or removed. If the trims remain the same, they will be as follows:

  • Base
  • Premium
  • Sport
  • Wilderness
  • Limited
  • Touring
