Subaru Lineartronic CVT: How Does it Work?
The Subaru Lineartronic CVT Transmission is designed to work directly with the Subaru Boxer engine and Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system to provide you with a smooth, responsive and efficient driving experience. Rather than use a traditional gearbox, the Lineartronic CVT uses two hydraulic adjustable pulleys with a chain link that connects them, using a stepless gear ratio rather than fixed steps to allow the engine to continuously run at the optimal power range, conserving fuel economy and providing you with a responsive and smooth driving experience. Models with available paddle shifters also allow you to manually choose from six set ratios for added control when you need it most.
What Models Are Lineartronic CVT Available On?
All Subaru models offer the choice of the available Lineartronic CVT on top of a standard six-speed manual transmission. You can choose to utilize your Lineartronic CVT in automatic mode, or if you want to take control, you can switch it over to the six-speed manual more with available steering wheel mounted paddle shifters, providing you with a controlled and responsive choice of six set ratios.
