Discover All of the Engineering that Goes into A Subaru

Subaru models are known as some of the most capable thanks to their Boxer Engine and Symmetrical All-Wheel drive, but there are many customers that don't fully understand what those are: we are here to help! We want you to have the best understanding of your vehicle, being able to see what makes it so helpful to your life.

Boxer Engine

Subaru engineers realized that by positioning the engine horizontally the ride would be smoother because it would cancel out vibrations from engine fire and piston movement. With less vibrations, there isn't a need for any vibration absorbing components that tend to show heavy wear over time, helping to reduce the service costs that come along with a Subaru model. The lower center of gravity of the Boxer engine helps to provide more responsiveness and quicker handling than the ordinary engines that are V-Shaped or Inline.

All Subaru models feature a Boxer engine, making sure you can get the best performance at all times. When you come to take a test drive, you will see all of the benefits that come with driving any Subaru option.

Subaru Boxer Engines

Every new Subaru model comes equipped with a Subaru Boxer engine under the hood, providing you with a lower center of balance and greater stability everywhere you go. Subaru Boxer engines differ greatly from other engine types because the Boxer engine is horizontally opposed, meaning the pistons face away from each other at a 180 degree symmetrical layout, providing greater balance and less vibration. Because of the horizontal layout, the Boxer engine takes up less room than traditional vertical or V-shape opposed engines, allowing it to be mounted lower in the vehicle, giving you a lower center of gravity and therefore more stability, providing you with a safer, more confident driving experience on straightaways and the tightest corners alike.

What Types of Subaru Boxer Engines Are Available?

Every Subaru vehicle comes equipped with a Subaru Boxer engine under the hood, but they differ in terms of liters and cylinders throughout different models. Depending on the model you choose, you can take advantage of the 2.0-liter flat-four Boxer engine, the 2.5-liter flat-four Boxer engine, the 2.5-liter turbocharged flat-four Boxer engine, and the 3.6-liter flat-six Boxer engine across the lineup of new Outback, Forester, Crosstrek, Legacy, Impreza, WRX, and BRZ models.
